Cleanup
Pro Tip: Keep a scrub brush in your toolbox to remove buildup, keeping tiles and grout clean after installation. A scrub brush with stiff nylon V-cut bristles can help you remove mold, mildew, scum, dirt, and grease that cause buildup on the grout lines.
These are some items that will help you complete your installation with ease and can make a big difference in the overall look of your project:
- A bucket. Look for one with a liquid capacity of 5 US gallons (20 quarts), and a lifting capacity of up to 84 lbs.
- A thinset removal tool. Look for one specially designed to clear the thinset that comes up into the grout joint when the tiles are set in place prior to grouting, and to reduce final clean up time when the thinset is removed while wet. Choose one made of durable plastic material that does not scratch the tile and is easy to clean.
- Microfiber cloths. They are ideal for removing grout haze, as well as general dusting, washing and cleaning. Look for one that features rows of non-abrasive, scrubbing micro-bristles that can remove dried grout immediately after installation, and stubborn dirt and grime.
- A polishing cheesecloth. Ideal to remove grout haze after installing tile, this kind of cloth is great for polishing any tile surface to a bright, shiny finish.
